# Phd Opportunity: Planetary Science Data Analytics Combining latest technological developments in BigData analytics with the scientific exploitation of Planetary Science data: raster, image, topography, multi-, hyper-spectral cubes, subsurface sounding radar. # Project description Develop and contribute to exploit the next generation of Planetary Science data analytics. The work is going to be based on raster database technology within the EU-funded EarthServer-2, through the use of OGC standards. PlanetServer-2 (Planetary Service of EarthServer) aims at broadening existing targets and datasets to be served, queried and analysed using OGC and Web standards. # Highlights: - Fully funded PhD for 3 years - International english-speaking environment - Working in a project (EarthServe-2) that follows up on a EU FP7 project, based on award- winning technology and described by its reviewers and the EU with these words: "With no doubt the project has been shaping the Big Earth Data landscape through the standardisation activities within OGC, ISO and beyond". The underlying world-leading array database, rasdaman, will "significantly transform the way that scientists in different areas of Earth Science will be able to access and use data in a way that hitherto was not possible". # Skills of the successful applicant include: - (Geo) Science and/or software engineering background - Proven and robust programming skills (including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python) - Web/GIS mapping development experience - Unix/Linux experience - Assets: planetary geoscience experience, knowledge of OGC WCS, WCPS, PostgreSQL - Ability to work independently and within a team - Willingness to cross boundaries between natural and computer sciences # Info on Jacobs University Jacobs University Bremen is an international research university located in the North of Germany, close to the North Sea.
