Planning scope in written language production.

Aims:
Research will contribute to understanding of planning scope and associated psycholinguistic mechanisms both in the controlled production of written phrases and sentences, and in the writing of spontaneous, multi-sentence texts (e.g., short essays).
Methods:
Study in this area could draw on a range of methods used within experimental psycholinguistics. The student would be encouraged to explore methods that combine eye-tracking and keystroke logging. Cross-language comparison, with existing European collaborators, is also possible.
Candidates:
Candidates for this studentship will require a strong grounding in linguistics or psychology, ideally to masters level or equivalent. They will need to demonstrate an aptitude for learning methods for sophisticated data manipulation and statistical analysis.
