Materials Science to join the Institute for General Materials Properties within the Department of Materials Science of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität
Erlangen-Nürnberg in Erlangen, Germany.
Research topics include:
- Mechanical properties of nanoscale structures (nano-wires, -particles, thin films) and small scale plasticity
- Atomistic studies of topological anisotropy and mechanical properties of silicate glasses within the Priority Program "Topological
Engineering of Ultra-strong Glasses" (SPP 1594) of the German Research foundation DFG
The successful candidate will hold a Masters degree, preferably in Physics or Materials Science, and have a solid knowledge of the structure
and mechanical properties of materials. Experience in scientific programming is required. In addition, experience with Molecular Dynamics simulations is highly
desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills (English and German) and the ability to work well in a dynamic and collaborative international research
environment are essential. The PhD candidates will be enrolled in the graduate school of the cluster of excellence "Engineering of Advanced Materials" which provides
doctoral researchers with special training through short courses on experimental and simulation methods as well as on leadership skills development.
