Ph.D. student for a project translating genomic information into medical care and public health is currently one of the main challenges in public health genomics.
Job description
Translating genomic information into medical care and public health is currently one of the main challenges in public health genomics. Genomic profiling, testing multiple genes simultaneously, is anticipated to improve prediction of risks of complex diseases and lead to personalized prevention and treatment strategies. To distinguish promising from premature applications, we investigate approaches for evaluating the usefulness of genomic profiling, which we illustrate with evaluations of commercially available tests and the new possibilities of whole genome sequencing. You will participate in this project.
You investigate the possibilities for the prediction of disease using whole genome sequencing. You write manuscripts for international scientific journals. These publications are the basis for your PhD thesis. NIHES courses leading up to a MSc degree in (genetic) epidemiology may be part of the project.
Requirements
You have a MSc degree (doctoraal) in medicine, health sciences, epidemiology, mathematics or economic sciences, and a great interest in quantitative data analyses, preferably in modeling studies. You are enthusiastic, accurate, flexible and able to work in a team. You have a good command of the English language.
Conditions of employment
We offer you an appointment at the Erasmus MC as a Ph.D. student (OIO – onderzoeker in opleiding) for a period of 4 years. The gross monthly salary amounts € 2.086,- in the first year and increases to € 2.673,- in the fourth year, with a full-time appointment, according to the PhD salary scales of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
