[beasiswa] [INFO] PhD position: Stochastic Finite-Element tool for wood-based products : Vienna, Austria

Dear all,
FYI

The Institute for Mechanics of Materials and Structures at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) (Prof. Josef Eberhardsteiner) invites applications to a position at PhD student level. The aim of this PhD project is the further development of numerical simulation tools for wood-based products, such as glued- or cross-laminated timber, including stochastic approaches to take the material variability into account. Finally, a better understanding of the mechanical behavior of these products should reveal optimization potential and should contribute to a better utilization of the raw material. Therefore, a strong background in engineering mechanics materials science, and/or computational mechanics is desired. This PhD project is part of the doctoral program „DokInHolz" supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Research and industry partners. It encompasses 11 PhD projects in wood, paper, and forest research at the Vienna University of Technology, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, and the Graz University of Technology.
Excellent research and communication skills, ability to develop initiatives and to work in a team, high dedication to work and excellent work ethics are essential.
To qualify for this doctoral program the following requirements have to be fulfilled: (1) the candidate must hold a Master of Science degree or equivalent, typically in the field of engineering mechanics, biophysics, materials science, and/or applied mathematics; (2) the candidate has to be able to follow the doctoral program in English (written and spoken). The PhD projects (36 months) are part of a PhD program provided by Federal Ministry for Science and Research and industry partners. The PhD student will be employed 40 hours/week.
Review of candidates will begin October 4, 2013.
Interested candidates should send a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and names and addresses of three references to Dr. Josef Füssl, Josef.Fuessl@tuwien.ac.at, Tel: ++43-1-58801-20217.

best regards,
Andriati Ningrum
