Project Title: News from 'Nowhere': Emerging criminal markets in the global economy
An enhanced stipend of £15,000 per annum is offered to a strong candidate for a full time PhD scholarship within the Social Futures Institute, Teesside University. The scholarship is funded by Teesside University, and will be for three years, subject to satisfactory progress.
Significance of the work: Criminal markets are emerging and mutating rapidly in today's global marketplace. Criminology is struggling to maintain pace with these markets and the many different criminal practices they contain. Using either quantitative or qualitative research, the successful applicant will attempt to analyse the reality of contemporary criminal markets and make an original contribution to the criminological understanding of illegitimate entrepreneurship.

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should hold or expect to obtain a good honours degree (2.1 or above) and/or Masters level qualification in a relevant discipline. Please submit a copy of your dissertation or a substantial piece of coursework, along with your application form, as this will be read to assist in shortlisting.
The successful applicant will have significant experience in criminology and be inquisitive and ambitious to become involved in cutting edge fieldwork and theory.
Although we can accept applications from overseas students, the funding will only cover a home student fee. The difference between the home and international student fee would be payable by the applicant.
